Alternators rebuilt
Reconditioned and new alternators, with a full test of the charging system.
- Charging system test
- Reconditioning
- New alternators
What we do
Your alternator keeps the battery charged and every electrical system running while you drive. When it starts to fail the warning signs are easy to miss: a dash light that flickers, a battery that is always flat, headlights that dim at idle.
We test the whole charging system, then recondition or replace the alternator as needed. Reconditioning in house is a skill many garages have lost, and it is one our customers come to us for.

Charging system test
Output, ripple and voltage under load checked so we know whether the alternator, the battery or the wiring is at fault.
Reconditioning
Bearings, brushes, regulator and rectifier renewed and the unit tested before it is refitted.
New alternators
Quality new units supplied and fitted when that is the better option.
Smart charging systems
Modern alternators controlled by the car's computers diagnosed with the right equipment.
Classic dynamos
Dynamos and early alternators on classic cars repaired, or converted where you want more output.
Marine and plant
Alternators for boats, tractors and machinery reconditioned.

Questions we get asked
How can I tell if my alternator is failing?
A charging light on the dash, a battery that keeps going flat, or lights that dim and brighten with the revs are the usual signs. A free battery health check includes a test of the alternator output.
Can a bad alternator damage my new battery?
Yes. An alternator that overcharges or undercharges can shorten the life of a battery. That is why we test the charging system whenever we fit a battery.
Do you recondition alternators or only fit new ones?
Both. We recondition in house and supply new units, and we will tell you which makes more sense for your vehicle.
Can you work on a classic car dynamo?
Yes. We repair dynamos and early alternators on classic vehicles and can advise on conversions.
How long does an alternator repair take?
Often a day or two, depending on the vehicle and whether we are reconditioning or fitting new. We will give you a time when we quote.
